The Search for the Perfect Gift

It is the time of the year where people seem frazzled.  The holidays are here!  What in the world do I get my mom, grandfather, my friend??  It is the age old question.   I am not he gift card giving person.  I try to find the perfect gift for all.  What is mostly over looked or just plain forgotten is the perfect gift does not need to be expensive.

The gift of health.  Take your grandmother to her doctor or dental appointment.  Help your dad set up his medications.   Go walking with your friend.  Help child proof a new parent’s home.  You are not only helping them to be healthier, but spending time with the one you care about.

The gift of time.  We are a busy society.  We have a hand held this, an electronic that.  Turn off the electric whatever, and spend an evening with family or friends talking, playing a game.  Time is a precious gift that we seem never to have a lot of.  When was the last time you were able to sit and talk?  We get together with friends with a list of fun, silly questions.  What did you want to be when you grew up?  Regardless of time, money, what is your dream vacation?  If you could be anything in the world, what would it be?  You have some laughs and get to know people even better.

The gift of your heart.  Write a letter explaining what the person means to you.  Put together a scrapbook or photo album of fun times together.   This gift will be read and reread, leafed through and leafed through again.

We have a friend of ours who passed away at a very young age leaving behind his wife and three very young sons.  I have started to write a letter to his sons about what their dad was like and fun times we had.  It is a difficult letter to write.  I know that this is a letter that will be the perfect gift.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Holidays to All!
