Bone Marrow Transplant Patient Support

Hand on Hand imageFroedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin offer a variety of survivorship and support services to help patients cope with the emotional and practical aspects of their transplants and guide them on the path to recovery.

Quality of Life Center

The Jeffrey C. Siegel Quality of Life Center, located on the second floor of the Clinical Cancer Center, provides cancer patients and their families with a full range of support services. It is named in memory of an individual whose generous family helped make it possible.

Art Therapy

Our art therapist helps individuals express concerns about illness and their lives through art modalities such as drawing, painting, sculpture or photography. For more information, please contact our art therapist in the Jeffrey C. Siegel Quality of Life Center at 414-805-0572.

Complementary therapies, including art therapy, have been reported effective in reducing anxiety and other emotional symptoms, improving quality of life and enhancing cancer patients’ ability to cope with stress. Several studies suggest that more than 80 percent of cancer patients may use some form of complementary therapy in conjunction with standard medical treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Celebration of Life Event

Each year, we invite patients who have received a blood or marrow transplant to attend a special Celebration of Life event. Patients have an opportunity to hear from bone marrow transplant specialists and talk with others who have similar experiences. The event is a source of hope, optimism and encouragement for patients — and for medical staff who find inspiration and continued motivation in each patient’s recovery.

Child Life Specialists

Patients and families have access to a certified child life specialist, a child development expert who helps children cope with the stress of an adult’s illness or injury.

Smoking Cessation

If you are ready to take the next step toward a smoke-free lifestyle, ask your health care provider about a referral to the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center Smoking Cessation Program.

Services On and Near Campus

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin offers on-site services to deal with the social, emotional and financial issues related to illness and hospitalization. There are also local area services, including restaurants, churches and synagogues, car rental, shopping, and lodging options that may be helpful for patients and their families.

Small Stones Wellness Center

Many cancer patients experience changes in personal appearance. Hair loss, surgery and other issues can add to the burden of disease and treatment. Located on the second floor of the Clinical Cancer Center, the Small Stones Wellness Center helps cancer patients manage these changes and regain confidence about their personal image.

Support Groups

People affected by a cancer diagnosis, as well as their spouses, family members, significant others and caregivers, are welcome to attend our support groups to share information and experiences, as well as to receive encouragement and support.
