Cord Blood and Haplo Transplants
If a related or unrelated matched donor cannot be found, alternative transplant options may include:
- Cord Blood Transplant — The stem cells from donated umbilical cords are used. This procedure is generally done as part of a clinical trial and is used more often with children needing transplants.
- Haplo Transplant — Haplo means “half matched” and uses the stem cells of a donor, usually a sibling, parent or child, who is not a complete match for the patient. This procedure is usually part of a clinical trial.
