What Happens at a Chemotherapy Session

Different Settings for Different Needs

Our infusion areas offer treatment settings to fit the needs of individual patients. Semi-private infusion areas let patients receive their therapy in a light, open environment that allows for interaction with others. Every care setting includes accommodations for the patient’s family or friends along with access to Wi-Fi.

Private Room Facilities

All locations offer a number of private infusion rooms (some with private bathrooms, depending on location) for patients receiving longer treatments or those who need more complex support. This enables patients to receive the equivalent of inpatient care in an outpatient setting. Many chemotherapy and biotherapy patients who would normally need to be hospitalized receive their medical treatments during the day and then go home in the evening. Research shows that being able to eat and sleep at home promotes faster patient recovery.

Safety and Comfort During Infusion Therapy

Our highly skilled oncology nursing staff ensure that patients are closely monitored and treated with the utmost regard to their safety and comfort. Each infusion area is connected to a nurse call system for an extra measure of safety. All nurses in our infusion areas have received additional training specific to cancer patients and are certified by Oncology Nursing Society as chemotherapy/biotherapy providers.

Extended Hours Offer Flexibility to Meet Work and Life Needs

Many cancer patients struggle to balance their therapy needs with job and family responsibilities. To help maintain this balance, patients may choose to have infusion therapy  at the location that offers hours that best meet individual needs.

Day Hospital

The Day Hospital, located in the Clinical Cancer Center on the Froedtert Hospital campus, offers unique services such as outpatient blood and marrow transplant, as well as access to early-phase clinical trials within the Nicolas Family Foundation Translational Research Unit for eligible patients.
