Our team of wound care professionals provides a dedicated, coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to evaluation and treatment of wounds. Our focus in wound care includes the entire spectrum of wounds, such as:

  • Arterial and venous wounds
  • Complex surgical wounds
  • Diabetic wounds
  • Foot and ankle wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Ostomy wound management
  • Traumatic injury
  • Wounds related to diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and scleroderma

Our providers, nurses and physical therapy professionals, work as a team to create an individualized plan of care for each patient. We start with the simplest approach to optimize healing, and modify the treatment plan as needed. As part of the approach to treatment, we work closely with the patient’s referring physician to identify the cause of the wound and manage the factors that may delay healing.

We teach patients and their caregivers how to properly care for their wounds and promote healing, and instruct our patients on how to help prevent a recurrence of the wound. Regular follow-up care is an important part of our approach.

If further care is needed, our wound care team can refer patients to our partners in Hyperbaric Medicine. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been shown to be effective in promoting wound healing and has been approved for treatment of the following conditions:

  • Arterial insufficiency in problem wounds
  • Osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Skin grafts

Addressing Factors That Affect Wound Healing

Our approach to wound care includes examining the underlying medical conditions and lifestyle factors that may affect healing, including nutrition, exercise, smoking, obesity and high blood pressure — referring patients to other specialists such as dietitians and social workers when needed.

We see a large number of diabetic patients and we work to address all the factors that may affect the wound and healing, including off-loading (or taking pressure off the wound), blood sugar control, proper nutrition and the need for specialty footwear.
