PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Requirements and Expectations

The following are some of the requirements and expectations for participants in the PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency at Froedtert Hospital:

  1. Professional Organization Membership
    • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
    • Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW)
  2. Conferences
    • ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference (GLPRC)
    • Milwaukee Residency Conferences (six/year)
    • PSW Annual Meeting (optional)
    • PSW Educational Conference (optional)
    • ASHP Leadership Conference (recommended)
  3. Formal Presentations
    • UHC Resident Poster Presentation at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • GLPRC PowerPoint Presentation
    • PSW Poster Presentation (recommended)
  4. Pharmacy Staffing
    • A staffing component will be required throughout the PGY1 year and may include staffing in retail and/or ambulatory care areas.
  5. Departmental Meetings
    • Weekly clinical conferences
    • Weekly resident discussions
    • Weekly journal clubs
    • Monthly department staff meetings
    • Bimonthly administrative discussions
    • Monthly medication safety discussions
  6. Licensure
    • Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin (required by Sept. 1, 2015)
  7. Other
    • Minimum eight hours/day (Monday - Friday)
    • Assist and support department in additional ways as needed
    • Complete assignments and evaluations on a timely basis
    • Coordinate Pharmacy Week activities within the hospital
