PGY1 Residency Project

Evaluation of a pharmacist driven tacrolimus dosing protocol in the outpatient blood and marrow transplant population

This project entails implementing and evaluating a collaborative practice agreement in the blood and marrow transplant clinic allowing for pharmacist management of tacrolimus dosing. With a growing number of transplants performed at Froedtert, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to manage patient’s tacrolimus therapy. The goals of the project are to improve patient adherence to therapy, improve provider and patient satisfaction with pharmacy services, and to increase prescription capture.

Why did you choose to pursue a residency?

I wanted to challenge myself to develop in to a confident practitioner with well-rounded clinical skills. A residency offers opportunities for career advancement, development of a strong clinical background, and exposure to a variety of different practice settings.

What attracted you to Froedtert’s pharmacy residency program?

As a busy academic medical center, Froedtert’s residency program provides a broad clinical experience which is exactly what I was looking for in a residency. With a growing oncology service line and several intensive care units, Froedtert specializes in many of my chief interests. I was also attracted to the progressive pharmacy practice model at Froedtert, where pharmacists are directly involved in patient care on a daily basis.
