Wednesday, December 11, 2013 - Changes Become Visible as Hospital Receives Facelift

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Memorial Hospital is in the process of updating its building exterior. The work began in May and is being done in phases on the north and south additions of the building. The final result will be a new, contemporary exterior as well as increased energy efficiency.

The resurfacing is being done because the exterior façade and the windows in these sections of the facility were not performing to the hospital’s standards.  As part of the project, the hospital is also having new windows installed in these areas.  The windows are more energy efficient, resulting in energy savings.

Presented with a rare opportunity to update the exterior appearance of the building while making the facility more energy efficient, the new exterior will add a blend of natural stone and warm tones of metal panels along with the white stone.

While work on the project continues on some sections of the building, the reconstruction of several other areas is complete. One of the most visible changes is to the gallery seating area next to the front entrance. Visitors and patients now see a sleek exterior that mimics the look of the clinic across the street. In several other areas, the new panels have been attached to vertical strips of the building providing a fresh, modern look.

The work is being performed by methodically moving around the north and south additions, and every effort is being made to minimize disruption.  The north and south additions were built in the early 2000s. The project is expected to be finished in spring 2014.
