  • Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Froedtert Hospital is an internationally recognized academic medical center located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Froedtert Hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence and research draws patients from around the world. It is eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center, working in tandem with the Medical College of Wisconsin.

    Froedtert Hospital was recently recognized as a top performer in the 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking by Vizient, Inc. Achieving a rank of 4 out of 116 Comprehensive Academic Medical Center Vizient members, we were recognized for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. This represents our highest rank since 2017. The ranking measured performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. The ranking factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.     Froedtert Hospital is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in urology. Froedtert Hospital is also recognized as high performing in three adult specialties — cancer, gastroenterology/GI surgery and pulmonology/lung surgery — and 16 procedures and conditions.

    The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized Froedtert Hospital as a "Top Performer in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality" for protecting our LGBTQ patients and employees from discrimination, ensuring equal visitation for LGBTQ people and providing staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care.

    Froedtert Hospital was named a top major teaching hospital in Merative’s annual 100 Top Hospitals ranking that recognizes the top-performing hospitals in the U.S. To determine the hospitals included on the list, Merative researchers evaluated 2,650 short-term, acute care hospitals using publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data and metrics.

    Froedtert Hospital received the 2023 Greenhealth Partner for Change Award and the Greening the Operating Room Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth for leadership in environmental sustainability in health care. A focus on more sustainable operations supports healthier patients, staff and communities.

    Froedtert Hospital earned a 4 out of 5-star rating in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services 2023 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. The ratings measure mortality, patient experience, readmission rates and timely and effective care.

    Froedtert Hospital is among "America's 50 Best Hospitals™," according to a list released by Healthgrades. This recognition places our hospital among the top 1% of hospitals nationally based on an objective review of clinical outcomes across multiple conditions and procedures, analyzing the performance of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide

    In its 2024 Specialty Excellence Awards, Healthgrades recognized Froedtert Hospital as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery, one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention, as well as other specialty achievements in various areas.

    For the second year in a row, Froedtert Hospital was identified as one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals™ according to an independent quality analysis based on a balanced scorecard provided by PINC AI™, and reported by Fortune. The hospitals recognized in the top 50 operated at lower cost and had better outcomes, recording significantly higher inpatient survival rates, fewer patients with complications, lower readmission rates and up to nearly $10,000 less in total costs per patient case. According to the study’s analysis, if all hospitals operated at the level of this year’s top performers, there could be 7,600 fewer deaths due to heart disease, 6,700 fewer bypass and angioplasty patients who suffer complications, and more than $1 billion in costs saved for the 2024 study year. Froedtert Hospital was ranked in the category of top teaching hospitals with a cardiovascular residency program. In this cohort of hospitals, Froedtert Hospital was ranked No. 4 in the country. No other hospital in Wisconsin was recognized with this national distinction.

    The Society for Vascular Surgery's Vascular Quality Initiative (SVS VQI) has awarded Froedtert Hospital three out of three stars for its active participation in the Registry Participation Program. The mission of the SVS VQI is to improve patient safety and the quality of vascular care delivery by providing web-based collection, aggregation and analysis of clinical data submitted in registry format for all patients undergoing specific vascular treatments. The VQI operates 14 vascular registries.

    The American Heart Association recognized Froedtert Hospital with its Get With the Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Plus Award. In addition, the hospital was recognized on the AHA’s Target: Heart Failure(SM) Honor Roll and received the AHA’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™ award. 

    The American Heart Association also recognized Froedtert Hospital with its Get With the Guidelines® — Coronary Artery Disease Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Silver Plus and Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Silver awards. These awards demonstrate our commitment to improving care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining processes to ensure timely and proper care for heart attacks.

    The American Heart Association recognized Froedtert Hospital with its Get With the Guidelines® AFib Gold Award.

    ​The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Froedtert Hospital have each received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. This award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Receiving this national three-year award with gold, silver and bronze designations, marks a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and achieving a healthy work environment.

    The Froedtert & MCW Comprehensive Stroke Program at Froedtert Hospital earned the Get With The Guidelines® — Stroke GOLD PLUS with Honor Roll Elite Plus and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award, (the highest level of recognition possible for a single, continuous 24-month period) from the American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines Program.     The Parkinson’s Foundation designated the Froedtert & MCW Neuroscience Center as a Parkinson’s Foundation Comprehensive Care Center for the care of people with this progressive neurological condition. A Parkinson's Foundation Center of Excellence is a medical center with a specialized team that is up to date on the latest Parkinson’s disease medications, therapies and research. Each Center is required to meet rigorous care, clinical research, professional training, community education and outreach criteria.

    The Emergency Department at Froedtert Hospital has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses Association 2023 Lantern Award for excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research performance. The award serves as a visible symbol of our commitment to quality, safety and a healthy work environment.

    Froedtert Hospital received the distinction of becoming ENERGY STAR® Certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for superior energy performance. Froedtert Hospital reduced its energy consumption per square foot by more than 30 percent since 2009. Our staff worked together to reduce our consumption to make it equal to that of more than 1,500 homes. ENERGY STAR is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance.

Healthgrades bases its analysis on MedPAR data for years 2018–2020  and represents three-year estimates for Medicare patients only. In its 2024 Specialty Excellence Awards, Healthgrades recognized Froedtert West Bend Hospital for various specialty achievements.

  • Our health centers and clinics are staffed by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Physicians. They include more than 250 primary care and specialty care physicians serving patients at more than 30 locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

    Our North Hills Health Center and Town Hall Health Center in Menomonee Falls and our West Bend Health Center have been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for meeting the National Standard for Diabetes Self-Management Education.

For the fifth year in a row, our Cancer Network has been recognized by Press Ganey for sustaining the highest standards in patient experience. As a 2022 Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award® winner, we scored in the 95th percentile in Press Ganey’s national database of 41,000 organizations — the largest database for patient experience measures. More than 93% of our cancer patients surveyed after appointments say they would recommend us, a rating that is an extraordinary mark of honor for which we are very grateful.

The Froedtert Health Anticoagulation Clinic passed the Anticoagulation Forum assessment program and earned the designation as an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence. The rigorous assessment gave us the chance to measure our practice against five key areas of patient care. We have anticoagulation clinic locations at Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Froedtert West Bend Hospital.

Froedtert Health has been recognized as a “most wired” health care organization in the 2023 Digital Health Most Wired Survey released by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
