Volunteering at Froedtert West Bend Hospital

Teens or “Volunteens,” Ages 16 – 17

Volunteering can be a fun and rewarding experience. Volunteens learn new skills and gain valuable experience in a variety of situations. Volunteering is also a very serious commitment. You need to be dependable, mature, respectful and willing to work hard. Volunteens who complete a full term will receive a certificate documenting service hours.

To ensure the best experience for our patients and volunteers, we have established the following Volunteen program requirements:

• The Volunteen program is comprised of three terms: spring, summer and fall.
• Teens must commit to a minimum of two volunteer shifts each month for their chosen term.
  Spring term: November 30 (previous year)
  Summer term: April 30
  Fall term: July 31
• Teen application process must be complete by the following dates:
  • April 30 for summer term
  • July 30 for fall term
  • November 30 for spring term
• Space is limited, placement granted on first come, first serve basis and incomplete applications are not accepted.
• Students must realistically consider school, work and activity schedule to make sure they are able to commit to two monthly volunteer shifts per term.
• Staff makes volunteer assignment based on department needs and applicant skills, interest, experience and availability. 
• We depend on you. After two no call no shows or absences, participants exited from program.
• Volunteer hours verified after completing full term.
• After successful completion of initial term, students may return for additional consecutive terms without reapplying. Students need to inform Volunteer Services staff of their intention to return. Volunteens will be required to complete annual education and vaccine requirements each fall.

Application Process

Please complete and submit an online application form. If selected, we will contact you for an interview. Please promptly respond to the representative reaching out to you for an interview.

The following onboarding requirements must be met prior to beginning service. Our representative will guide you through the process and prompt you when to move to the next step:

• Teen permission form: If you are under the age of 18, please have your parent or legal guardian fill out and sign this permission form. Return the form within four weeks of you application date or your application will be removed from consideration.
• Background check.
• Occupational Health screen including immunization review, TB test and yearly seasonal flu vaccinations.
• Volunteer Services orientation including volunteer handbook quiz and confidentiality agreement.
• Department-specific training.

College Students, Age 18+

Volunteering can be a fun and rewarding experience. College students have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience in a variety of situations. Volunteering is also a very serious commitment. You need to be dependable, mature, respectful, and willing to work hard.

To ensure the best experience for our patients and student volunteers, we have established the following college student program requirements:

• The college student program is comprised of three terms — spring, summer and fall.
• College students must commit to at least one volunteer shift each week for full 12 weeks of their chosen term.
  Spring term: January – May
  Summer term: June – August
  Fall term: September – December
• College student application process must be complete by the following dates:
  Spring term: November 30 (previous year)
  Summer term: April 30
  Fall term: July 31
• Space is limited, late submissions and incomplete applications are not accepted.
• Students will be accepted based on the number of volunteer opportunities available.
• Students must realistically consider school, work and activity schedule to make sure they are able to commit to at least one weekly volunteer shift per term.
• Application information may not be changed once submitted, including schedule/availability.
• Hours verified only after completion of full semester.
• After two absences, or no-call no-shows, participants exited from program.
• Staff makes volunteer assignment based on department needs and applicant skills, interest, experience and availability.
• After successful completion of one term, students may return for an additional term without reapplying. Students need to inform Volunteer Services staff of their intention to return.
• Student volunteers may transition to regular Partner membership after successful completion of college term. Students need to inform Volunteer Services staff of their intention to transition.
