Tom Tolan

Tom Tolan is the Together, We Are Strong cancer blog moderator. Tom was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in Milwaukee, graduating from Marquette University High School, and later Amherst College in Massachusetts. He has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. 

Tolan is a journalist who was a reporter and editor for newspapers in Rome, Ga., and El Paso, Texas, before coming home to Milwaukee to work for The Milwaukee Journal and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He retired at the end of 2014 after 24 years there, several of those years editing coverage of health and medicine. In his younger days, he was a longshoreman, a carpenter and a cabdriver in the Milwaukee area.

Tolan is interested in Milwaukee history and has written a book on the history of the city’s Riverwest neighborhood.

He’s married to Priscilla Pardini, a writer and editor, and they have a son, Casey, who’s also a journalist.
