Pharmacy Services Update

We have identified a solution that allows our pharmacies to resume close-to-normal operations at all locations. Most patients should not experience any significant delays at our pharmacy locations. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to serving you.

    • We have manual back-up processes in place to help patients with urgent medication needs receive their medications and to prevent delays in hospital discharge.
    • We are doing everything we can to ensure patients receive the medications they need.
    • Please communicate with your Froedtert Pharmacy team about your medication needs during the outage to determine a plan for avoiding disruptions.
    • Please allow additional time for our pharmacy team to process medication requests during this outage, as we are not operating under normal circumstances.
    • At this time, the vendor has not provided us with an end date/time for this outage. We do not currently know how long this issue will last.
    • We are actively monitoring the situation and doing everything we can to partner with necessary vendors to help resolve the issue as soon as possible.
    • At this time, there is no known risk to our system or our patients’ privacy as a result of this issue.

While other Froedtert Pharmacy locations do not accept unused medications, you can safely dispose of unused medications in one of the following ways:

    • National Take-Back Day program aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

    • Find a local drop box or mail-back program.

    • Follow these steps to dispose of medicines in the household trash.
      • Mix medicines (do not crush tablets or capsules) with an unpalatable substance such as dirt, cat litter or use coffee grounds.
      • Place the mixture in a container such as a sealed plastic bag.
      • Throw the container in your household trash.
      • Scratch out all personal information on the prescription label of your empty pill bottle or empty medicine packaging to make it unreadable, then dispose of the container.
  • Sharps, items that can penetrate the skin and may have been exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials, can be safely returned to specific pharmacy locations or emergency departments when packaged the right way.

    Acceptable Sharps Containers

Sharps can be placed in a container such as a container bought for sharps or a heavy plastic laundry detergent bottle with a screw cap. The bottle must be labeled with biohazard stickers or labeled "bio-hazard," "sharps," or "infectious waste." The pharmacy can provide biohazard stickers to place on the bottle.

    • Unacceptable containers: coffee cans, milk or juice jugs, soda cans or bottles, cardboard boxes.
    • Acceptable sharps containers may be purchased at any Froedtert Pharmacy location.

Sharps containers can be brought to the following locations for proper disposal.

  • Our primary care pharmacists serve as the medication resource experts for the diabetes care at our primary care locations. Pharmacists connect with you to:

    • Help manage your medications.
    • Counsel on lifestyle.
    • Provide education on proper blood glucose monitoring.
    • Provide supportive listening to help patients reach their health goals.

Within the team, we also have two RN’s who will help you reach your health goals.

    Who Is Eligible

You need to meet the following criteria.

    • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, with an A1C greater than 9.
    • Have an assigned primary care doctor, but not seeing an endocrinologist for diabetes care.

    How to Sign Up

We will connect you with a primary care pharmacist in one of two ways.

    1. Your doctor can refer you. Ask your doctor about the Ambulatory Diabetes Outreach Program (ADOP).
    2. You will get a letter explaining the ADOP benefits if your medical record indicates the criteria above.

    How the Program Works

    • Appointments are available in person, via virtual video, or telephone appointments.
    • The pharmacists work out of the primary care program, so if you request an in-person appointment they would see the pharmacist at their PCP’s location.

    How Long the Program Lasts

You will meet with the pharmacist/nurse team until you reach your health goals— generally, when your A1C reaches your target.

  • Pets need medications, too! Many common prescription pet medications are the same as those used by humans and are available through our Froedtert Pharmacy services.

Fill your pet’s prescriptions as well as your own — often at a significant savings and convenience to you. Some exclusions apply as Froedtert Pharmacy does not offer any animal-only medications your veterinarian may prescribe. Always consult with your veterinarian before giving your pet any medications, as there are differences between some veterinary and human medications.

How do you get pet medications at a Froedtert Pharmacy?

    2. Get your pet’s prescription from your veterinarian and take it to a Froedtert Pharmacy location. Or your veterinarian can send a prescription directly to a Froedtert Pharmacy location of your choice.
    3. If you have pet insurance, check with your insurance provider about coverage at Froedtert Pharmacy locations. Some pet insurance companies require you to submit your pet’s pharmacy claims with receipts to receive reimbursement.
    4. Froedtert Pharmacy staff can process your pet’s medications using the Froedtert Rx Savings Plan and GoodRx prescription coupons.
    5. Establish Pet Proxy to manage your pet’s medications, refill prescriptions and receive notifications from the pharmacy, just as you would for yourself or a dependent.
