At Froedtert ThedaCare, our Mission is clear: To advance the health of our communities through excellence and discovery, inspiring each person to live their unique, best life. That mission extends beyond patient care — it drives our commitment to developing the next generation of health care professionals.
Through strategic partnerships, hands-on learning and career pathways, we’re opening doors for students to explore, prepare and thrive in health care careers.
How We Empower Future Clinical and Non-Clinical Professionals
We believe that talent is everywhere — and opportunity should be too. Our workforce development programs are designed to increase awareness, build skills and connect people to meaningful careers in health care.
Here are a few ways we support career awareness, exploration and readiness.
Career Awareness and Exploration
Through strong partnerships with Wisconsin’s schools and the Center for Healthcare Careers, Froedtert ThedaCare fosters career awareness and exploration by engaging students in hands-on experiences. These include:
- School career days
- Speaker/classroom presentations
- Mock interviews
Are you an educator or community group interested in partnering with us to bring health care careers to life for students? If so — or if you have another community-based opportunity you’d like us to consider — please fill out the Community Request Form at least 60 days in advance. When completing the form, please select “Career Exploration” under Event Focus and include details about the specific activity being requested, such as classroom presentations focused on particular health care careers (examples: registered dietitian, respiratory therapist, laboratory technician, medical assistant, etc.).
Pathways to Success
Our Pathways to Success program (available through our careers website) helps you explore new career paths and guide your professional development through skills training, mentoring and networking. We aim to develop skilled and flexible team members of all backgrounds to enhance service and quality — while providing life-changing career advancement opportunities.

Volunteering
All of our hospitals have volunteer opportunities. As a hospital volunteer, you get the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our patients and staff. You'll also gain insight into how a hospital works and what it is like to work in the health care field.
Job Shadow Observation Experience
A job shadow observation experience is a short-term learning opportunity that allows an individual to observe a team member in their daily work. The purpose is to gain insight into a specific professional role and its responsibilities, understand how a department or service operates and see how that role or department fits within the broader health care system.
Job Shadow Observation Experiences
High School and College Internships
These real-world experiences for high school and college students provide insight into health care environments and build valuable connections.
Our internships provide opportunities to those in the community who are looking to gain experience and learn about health care careers. They also increase the talent pipeline of emerging talent.
Apprenticeships
Earn while you learn. Our structured, short-term programs combine classroom instruction with on-the-job training in high-demand roles.
Training Programs
Our clinical and non-clinical workforce development programs prepare individuals for both entry-level and advanced roles.
College Externships
The opportunity to gain real-world clinical experience while still in college, serving as a vital bridge between classroom learning and professional practice in a supervised health care environment.
We’re not just preparing people for jobs — we’re helping them build careers that make a difference. By investing in workforce development, Froedtert ThedaCare is creating a pipeline of highly skilled, passionate and compassionate health care professionals.
