About

Dr. Shum an ear, nose, and throat surgeon with a practice that includes general Otolaryngology with a particular interest in the treatment of sleep disorders including sleep apnea. He is a native of Kansas City, and he obtained his undergraduate degree at Princeton University, where he conducted award-winning research in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he earned a research training grant from the NIH and a student research award from the Department of Otolaryngology. He completed his Otolaryngology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he stayed to complete fellowship training in both Pediatric Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine. His fellowship training included advanced surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Shum really took the time to explain things and listen to me as well.
Dr. Shum and his assistant were very clear about everything. They were very polite and professional. I appreciated the fact that they let me explain how I felt, even after their questions.
As a patient with a high BMI, I'm often told to "just lose weight" to solve health issues. I really appreciated that Dr. Shum didn't mention my weight at all and provided me with a variety of treatment options that a person of any size could benefit from. That really meant a lot to me.

Dr. Shum was very friendly, knowledgeable and very willing to listen to all of my questions. He advised on real world results, specifically gave advice based upon my symptoms and test results, and offered potential for other care options and thoroughly described each, if they were desired and explained what was most likely to help, and what was or wasn't necessary for my particular situation. Highly recommend and I very much appreciated his kindness and demeanor.
