Dr. Joel H. Blumin is a Fellowship trained, Board Certified Otolaryngologist/Head Neck Surgeon who has a clinical emphasis in treating patients with voice and throat problems. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences and sees patients of all ages.

Dr. Blumin graduated from the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in 1993. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society in 1992. Following medical school, he went back to his home of Los Angeles, CA for a residency in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at UCLA. As a resident, he received multiple awards for excellence in both teaching and research.

After his residency he stayed at UCLA to become the first Fellow in Laryngology, Voice Disorders, and Bronchoesophagology under the mentorship of Dr. Gerald S. Berke. During this two year Fellowship, he honed his diagnostic and surgical skills within the subspecialty of Laryngology.

At the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Blumin focuses his practice on diseases of the larynx and treatment of vocal professionals in all walks of life. He has a special interest and has been nationally recognized for his care of patients with spasmodic dysphonia, a neurologic disorder of the larynx. He also treats patients with airway stenosis, head & neck cancer, swallowing disorders, parotid and thyroid tumors, and tumors of the larynx.

He also enjoys his role as an academic otolaryngologist in teaching residents and medical students both the art and the science of medical practice. His research interests lie in neurolaryngology, laryngeal biomechanics, and spasmodic dysphonia.

Dr. Blumin has a simple philosophy of patient care that was passed to him from his mentors: treat every patient as if they were your mother or father. He will carefully explain a patient's diagnosis and treatment options in terms they can understand.

I have Dystonia,a movement disorder. this Physician provided to my throat. Over the years he has known me better, and has learned to realize that I need him to treat me with more pacience. Now I treated as a particular patient, not just someone who just the NEXT PATIENT ! We NOW we get along much better in our doctor/patient relationship. Thank you.

The patient really relies on the doctor's confidence comments and suggestions before moving to the next step health care stage. Dr Bluemin, Thank you very much helping me figuring out my health concern. After I stepped outside of your office, I have no worries any more and just wait till time cure it all. Thank you again!

my visit with physician was very good. however there seemed to not be a connection between registering at desk and physician visit. I waited in line more than 10-15 minutes because receptionist didn't know how to take co-pays at that location for people ahead of me. I was given a history to fill out but called into doctor before finishing. I believe blood pressure was taken improperly . when I filled out paper forms, the dr. never saw it when he came in. filling out the form was essentially a waste of time. need better integration between registration and clinical services. and I did arrive 20 minutes before appointment. also, parking at that location was poor. it took more than 15-20 minutes to find a parking place in parking ramp 5. I vowed that I would never have a primary care doc at that location.

1st staff person got an attitude with me because she failed to successfully take blood from me. I even asked her prior, "was she good at it, because I was queezy?" She attempted it, failed, and a 2nd staff member in the room stepped in and successfully completed it. The first one made a snide comment to me "oh you think I did a bad job?" I replied "Usually I get it as a one and done". When I thanked BOTH of them for their assistance, the first one just ignored me.

Dr. Blumin is an excellent provider. he listens well, cooperates with other providers involved in my care, and explains options well. He does not perform unnecessary tests or imaging. His explanations and answers put my mind at ease and made me feel like I'm in the best care possible.

I have always had very good treatment both at this office and during my stay at Froedert for surgery. I have already recommended both the physician and the facility to others.

I really did not get an answer to the 2 reasons I went to see Dr. Blumin. 1) Excessive Saliva w/drooling 2) Not being able to clear my throatNo explanation was given, or suggestions to help the issues. It was pretty much a waste of his time and mine as well as money.
July 23, 2019
He is excellent and has lead me through my chronic illness for 12 years. I trust him.
July 22, 2019
No, explained issue and sent up an appointment with a speech Dr
July 22, 2019
would have liked more answers to my health concern. I left without any real diagnosis or guidance as how to proceed.
July 16, 2019
felt very disrespected, that I wasn't important enough for his time. I felt he did not listen to my concerns nor answer the questions I had for him. Actually felt worse leaving there than when I went in. I refuse to go back to his office and requested another hospital for all future appointments/visits.

Yes, this is the third time I have met with this provider. He is sensitive to patient's needs and tries his best as far as I can see to accommodate them with his skills. However, he is not my primary provider, so I didn't expect advice on how to avoid illness and stay healthy unless I had a specific question regarding my throat.

DR. Blumin Is by far one of the best doctors that I have met. He not only made time to see me as a follow up from and emergency department visit he took the time to perform a detail evaluación of my situation and explain my condition and what to expect as well as possible steps if my condition did not improved. Very please with his service, I'm looking forward of making him my to go ENT doctor.
June 26, 2019
very kind, patient and informative...he related well with us.
June 26, 2019
only issue I had was that the doctor speaks too low. Thankfully I was able to understand him while straining to hear him
June 24, 2019
Respectful, listened well, experienced, gave coping strategies and listed outcomes with answers and was honest about limitations
June 12, 2019
could have taken a little more time to look at the problem, not just throw some antibiotics at me and if they don't work come back pay another 50$ and we can try again, huh?
June 4, 2019
He listens and he is concern about my health. Very good doctor.
May 17, 2019
HIs specialty is not my main problem.
May 8, 2019
Came into the visit with a preconceived notion that my cough was not an ENT issue it is a pulmonology issue 8/10 times. Pulmonology is the one who referred me. Didn't seem to listen what I had to say and my symptoms, only what he saw in the pictures. Waste of time and money.
April 30, 2019
I do not believe a doctor should outright disagree with a patient mentioning what helps them at home deal with their physical issues other than using medications. That is not professional.
April 23, 2019
This was a first visit to establish a relationship with an ENT doc around my unusual vocal cords issue. I now feel confident that Dr. Blumen understands my condition, and will be an excellent guide going forward.
April 15, 2019
