About

Dr. Judy Kim was inducted into the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS) during the society’s 150th (2014) annual meeting in New York. The AOS is limited to 275 active members and has included most of the notable luminaries in ophthalmology over the years. Dr. Kim is the first Korean-American ophthalmologist to become an AOS member. Founded in 1864, during the Civil War, the AOS was the first specialty society in the country, and its membership has served to influence virtually every facet of American ophthalmology. Admission to membership starts with a nomination process based on leadership and research in ophthalmology and requires the writing and publication of a thesis within three years of nomination. Acceptance into the society continues to represent special recognition of personal achievement.

I am aware that Dr. Kim is at the pinnacle of her specialty. Her abilities are beyond question. I was impressed with her friendliness and clarity of explanation of my eye condition. She showed me the scans and explained the problem and what she will do in surgery. She laid out the timeline of the entire process. (6 months from the vitrectomy to cataract surgery.) She told me the risks and limitations of the surgery.

The staff and provider were excellent as always, very respectful and caring. The wait times are very long, I would say 70% of the time spent at the office is in the waiting room or exam room.

I asked the doctor abou Occuvite and presvision. I have heard these pills can worsen eyesight. I wanted to know if this is true. The doctor said they are good to help prevent eyesight loss. Her point is why take them now since I already have a problem. Later that day why are people prescribed medication when they have high blood pressure. They have a problem so why take medication. I also discussed that I do not see darkness. Everything is bright My vision is cloudy for distances. I have difficulty reading. The print appears too small. A magnifying glass makes the print look normal
