The Froedtert & MCW Gastroesophageal Cancer Program provides leading-edge cancer treatment delivered by nationally recognized experts. Our physicians focus their expertise on caring for people with stomach (gastric) and esophageal cancers and are involved in research to find better treatments. They are always aware of the most advanced treatments for these diseases.
We provide complete, fully coordinated care to patients with stomach or esophageal cancers, including adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The gastroesophageal cancer team uses a precision medicine approach to treatment, assuring that our patients receive highly individualized treatment.
The Gastroesophageal Cancer Program is one of many disease-specific treatment programs within our Cancer Network.
Comprehensive Treatment Options
A cornerstone of the program is its weekly multidisciplinary tumor conference. Surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and clinicians collaborate in real time to determine the best possible treatment plan for each patient. This coordinated approach reduces delays and ensures that every care decision is informed by a broad range of expertise.
Treatment for gastric or esophageal cancer can include surgery, infused therapies and radiation therapy, used individually or in combination. Clinical trials are available, which can expand treatment options. Some of the therapies offered through the Gastroesophageal Cancer Program are not available elsewhere in Wisconsin.
In addition to medical care for stomach and esophageal cancers, the program integrates comprehensive cancer supportive services. Registered dietitians, physical therapists, psychologists and many others are important members of the cancer team, providing physical and emotional support for the whole patient throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Second Opinion for Stomach and Esophageal Cancers
Second opinions provide patients with the reassurance that a diagnosis is accurate and that they know all of the treatment options available to them. Through our Cancer Second Opinion Program, we provide reassurance that a stomach or esophageal cancer diagnosis is accurate and help patients understand all available treatment options. Appointments are available in person and, when appropriate, via virtual visits.
