Please schedule lab visits whenever possible. Patients arriving to a lab without a scheduled appointment will be offered the next available appointment time, wait times may vary.
You can schedule most lab appointments through the Froedtert & MCW app or MyChart for a time that is convenient for you. You must have an active lab order from your provider in order to schedule your appointment. If you do not have an order from your provider or if you are unsure, please contact your provider’s office. At this time, online scheduling is not available for appointments in our Cancer Center labs. You can also schedule an appointment by calling the location directly.
For your convenience, an order can be made at one location and drawn at another.
Lab results are available in MyChart. If you do not have MyChart or have questions regarding your results, please contact your provider. Lab staff cannot provide results.
For hours and additional information, please visit the individual lab location pages.
Preparing for Your Lab Visit
- Schedule an Appointment: Patients without a scheduled appointment will be offered the next available appointment time. To avoid waiting, please schedule an appointment before coming in.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink the daily recommended eight to 10 glasses of water (64 ounces) in the 24 hours before your lab visit. Try to drink two to four of those glasses within eight hours of your visit. If you are having a urine test, make sure to drink enough water to provide a sample.
- Length of Visit: Lab visits can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Please plan accordingly.
- Caregivers and Visitors: Lab waiting areas are typically small, so please consider limiting the number of people who come with you for everyone’s comfort. If you require a caregiver, they must stay with you throughout your visit.
- Glucose Tolerance Test: If you are having a glucose tolerance test, you will need to stay in the lab waiting area until the test is complete. This may take up to three hours. Wi-Fi is available for your convenience.
- Fasting Instructions: If you have been instructed to fast for your test, please follow these instructions:
- Do not eat or drink anything except plain water for eight hours before your lab visit.
- Drink the daily recommended eight to 10 glasses of water (64 ounces) in the 24 hours before your lab visit and take medications as usual (unless instructed otherwise by your doctor).
- Fasting is important for accurate lab results. If you arrive to the lab without fasting, we will not be able to collect your samples and will ask you to reschedule.
