Emergency Preparedness and Lockdown Drill

Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 | 9:20 – 9:30 a.m.

As part of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Froedtert Hospital will participate in a regional drill on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019. The purpose of this drill is to test our capability to respond to a dangerous situation on campus or in our facility.

During the drill, Froedtert Hospital will be implementing a lockdown for 10 minutes from 9:20 – 9:30 a.m. Thank you for your patience.

Why is Froedtert Hospital doing this?

This drill will help our staff better prepare for a potential real-life event. The drill will simulate an external threat and not allow the simulated threat to enter the hospital. The drill will help Froedtert Hospital staff determine best practices and identify areas for improvement.

Were patients notified of the lockdown?

Yes, we notified patients with scheduled appointments the week before the drill, and we will post signs the day of the drill. There will be an overhead announcement when the drill starts.

What should patients and visitors do during the drill?

Patients and visitors should remain in their current location inside the hospital until the all-clear message is given. We will communicate the all-clear message in an overhead announcement.

Staff will also receive internal communication regarding the lockdown and can answer any questions you may have.

How does this affect the Emergency Department?

The Emergency Department will not close its doors or divert ambulances during this drill. We will not interrupt patient care during this time.

Will there be an increased police presence on campus?

Yes, the Wauwatosa Police Department is participating in the drill. Police officers will park near Watertown Plank Road and 92nd Street. Signs will be posted stating that this is a training exercise.

Will the roads on campus be blocked?

No, traffic will not be impeded.
