Bryce Gartland, MD, appointed to serve as Froedtert ThedaCare Health South Region president

Milwaukee — Bryce Gartland, MD, will serve as the South Region president for Froedtert ThedaCare Health, effective Feb. 3, 2025. In this role, he will oversee all aspects of Froedtert ThedaCare Health’s South Region (legacy Froedtert Health) operations, working closely with clinical and hospital leaders to help ensure long-term growth and sustainability for the health network.

Dr. Gartland most recently served as hospital group president and co-chief of clinical operations for Emory Healthcare in Atlanta. During his 17 years with the health system, he held a series of progressive roles including director of hospital medicine, medical director of care coordination, and chief operating officer and vice president of operations for Emory University Hospital. Prior to his role as hospital group president, he was the chief executive officer for Emory University Hospital, Emory University Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital and Emory Wesley Woods Hospital.

“Among the many strengths Dr. Gartland brings to his new role is a leadership style that inspires achievement, supports talent growth and retention, and helps ensure sustained focus on day-to-day operations,” said Imran Andrabi, MD, president and CEO of Froedtert ThedaCare Health. “He is recognized for executing sound strategy, as evidenced by his leadership in the acquisition, integration and performance improvement of a three-hospital system formerly, Dekalb Medical Center into Emory Healthcare.”

He’s also a skilled collaborator. Under his leadership, Emory Healthcare partnered with the state to bring multiple stakeholders together to improve the health of Georgians through a program that secured nearly $900 million in federal funds for teaching and private hospitals across Georgia.

“The opportunity to join an exemplary team working toward redefining health care in America most excites me about this role,” said Gartland. “Today’s evolving academic health systems particularly those that have extended deeply into their communities like the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network are uniquely positioned to redefine what health care in America should look like.”

Dr. Gartland received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Ga. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

He is currently on the board of the Society for Hospital Medicine. He previously served on the Vizient Academic Medical Center CEO Advisory Council and as a member of the American Hospital Association’s Academic Medical Center Strategic Leadership Group and Health Reform Advisory Group.
