From TMJ4 — The Froedtert & MCW health network is working to get people trained to stop bleeding in neighborhoods that see a high level of car crashes and serious injuries. Kim Lombard, injury prevention and outreach coordinator, says there are critical moments that can mean the difference between life and death if someone has a bleeding injury like from a car crash or gunshot wound.

Gee's Clippers hosting second free skin cancer screening to raise awareness in people of color

Milwaukee nurse launches mentorship program to help youth discover their purpose

From TMJ4 — In 2019, Jasmine Johnikin, a nurse at Froedtert Hospital, made a commitment to save lives when she graduated from nursing school. During the pandemic, Johnikin realized she had a passion for mentoring youth and launched As I Am Mentoring Inc. in June 2022. It's a mentorship program designed to help kids realize their purpose in life and give them a voice.

Wisconsin woman finds hope after clinical trial for cancer treatment

From Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin — Linda Lavold found out she had breast cancer in 2020. She said it was something she never thought she would go through. Amanda Kong, MD, Froedtert & MCW oncologist, worked to get Linda into a clinical trial where her radiation before surgery was done with the Elekta Unity MR-linac machine. The trial was able to cut down the amount of times she had to go in for treatment by less than half. For Lavold, that meant a lot to her so she could continue her active lifestyle.

Wisconsin woman advocates for thyroid cancer awareness after diagnosis

From Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin — The American Thyroid Association said thyroid cancer is less common compared to other cancers like breast or colon. In 2021, 44,000 people were diagnosed with it. While it’s a less common cancer, Beth Madecky is still living with the diagnosis. Becky and her doctor, Gil Fareau, MD, Froedtert & MCW endocrinologist, talked about the disease and its treatment.

Milwaukee Anchor Collaborative moves into execution phase
