Retired Cudahy fire chief has second chance at life one year after lung transplant
From WISN 12 — As a paramedic, firefighter and eventually fire department chief in Cudahy, Richard Demien spent his life dedicated to saving others. In 2017, doctors at Froedtert Hospital diagnosed him with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and told him he would eventually need a lung transplant. Medications kept the disease at bay until 2021 when a donor lung became available and Froedtert & MCW transplant surgeons gave him his second shot at life.
