Cancer Accreditations

In 2016, the Clinical Cancer Center received a three-year accreditation with commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Accreditation at this level recognizes organizations that take a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer and offer, in addition to excellent clinical care, access to clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and comprehensive patient-centered services including psycho-social support, an individualized treatment navigation process and a survivorship care plan.

Since 2001, the Froedtert & the MCW Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program has been accredited by a national organization called the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). For patients, this measurement of quality and expertise provides the assurance that they are receiving high-quality transplant care and offers a way for them to compare different programs. FACT-accredited facilities demonstrate the latest knowledge in the field, including stem cell transplant. They also meet strict government regulations, as well as rigorous standards defined by leading experts in the field.

All three hospitals in the Froedtert & the MCW Cancer Network are accredited by the American College of Radiology–American Society for Radiation Oncology (ACR-ASTRO) — representing the highest level of quality and patient safety. The accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific practice guidelines and technical standards developed by ACR and ASTRO after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Only 10 percent of the nation’s radiation oncology practices achieve this distinction.

Froedtert Hospital has earned a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. To achieve voluntary NAPRC accreditation, a rectal center demonstrates compliance with NAPRC standards for management, clinical services and quality improvement. It must also have a rectal cancer multidisciplinary team: surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists. In addition, the program meets certain standards addressing clinical services, including testing (carcinoembryonic antigen testing), MR and CT imaging for cancer staging, and ensuring patients start treatment within a defined timeframe.

All Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin hospitals have breast care centers accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program of the American College of Surgeons.
