Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is a sleep disorder that occurs in 10 percent of the adult population. People with RLS have the urge to move the legs to relieve unpleasant, painful or “creepy, crawly” sensations in the legs. These sensations typically occur during inactivity, especially when trying to fall asleep making it tough to get a restful night’s sleep.
Diagnosing Restless Legs Syndrome
A physician may diagnose RLS based on your signs and symptoms, a complete medical history, and a physical examination. In addition, tests may be performed such as laboratory tests.
Treatments for RLS
RLS can be treated with by adopting good sleep habits, eliminating activities that make symptoms worse, maintaining a well-balanced diet and medications.
