Inspire therapy works inside your body, and with your natural breathing process, to treat sleep apnea. It continuously monitors your breathing patterns while you sleep. Based on your unique breathing patterns, the system delivers mild stimulation to key airway muscles, which keeps the airway open.
It is an effective treatment option for patients who can't use CPAP.
Inspire™ II consists of three implantable components:
- Implantable pulse generator (IPG)
- Self-sizing cuff stimulation lead
- Pressure-sensing lead (to sense pressure changes with breathing)
The respiratory pressure waveform is monitored by the IPG algorithm and triggers stimulation therapy with breathing. The device monitors respiratory waveforms, program stimulation modes and stimulation parameter values. The physician adjusts these to optimize the therapy. Patients also have the ability to adjust and modify the therapy.
Our Sleep Disorders Program was the first in the nation to treat a sleep apnea patient with upper airway stimulation therapy (hypoglossal nerve stimulation). This FDA-approved therapy monitors breathing and stimulates airway muscles to keep the airway open during sleep.
