Workplace wellness programs benefit both businesses and their employees as healthy employees feel better, miss less work due to illness and injury and are more productive. David Williams, Human Resource Specialist for the School District of Greenfield, shares some of the school district’s experiences in working with Workforce Health.
What type of employee wellness programs and activities do you offer? How have you partnered with Workforce Health to support employee well-being?
A. The School District of Greenfield opened a Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Workforce Health Workplace Clinic in 2017. Located in Greenfield High School, the clinic offers a range of health-related services to all employees, as well as their dependents who are on the district’s health insurance plan.
The Workplace Clinic also conducts sports physicals for Greenfield student-athletes.
Clinic users are very pleased with the services the clinic provides, the exceptional customer service, and most of all the cost, which is free for employees and their dependents.
In addition to the clinic, the School District of Greenfield promotes employee wellness by offering an annual wellness stipend, which reimburses employees up to $100 for a wide range of health-related expenses, including athletic club/gym memberships, athletic/fitness equipment, and even running shoes.
What benefits do you see to the organization and employees as a result of these efforts?
A. The clinic provides a range of services that are free to employees and are readily accessible. From the district’s standpoint, it helps keep costs down, and ultimately channels more money back into classrooms. Because of having the Workplace Clinic, employees miss less work, which provides further savings and maintains the continuity of learning in our classrooms.
What advice do you have for a business just starting employee wellness initiatives?
A. My simple advice is to start small, go slow, and keep going!
