I recently returned from a two-week surgical trip to Kenya. My wife, Kathi, and I have been privileged to travel to Africa for five of the past six years to work with the local otolaryngologists at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in Kenya.

This year, we worked with the Moi University faculty members, ENT residents from Nairobi, medical students and practicing otolaryngologists from nearby communities. In addition, a group of residents from University of California-San Diego continued their work measuring outcomes and patient satisfaction with the procedures offered.

The trip focuses on providing surgical care for Kenyans who otherwise would not be able to have procedures and to expand the surgical skills and knowledge of our Kenyan colleagues. It has been gratifying to build friendships and realize that our Kenyan friends have learned as much as we have.

I created a newsletter after our annual trip to Eldoret, Kenya. You can find it here. Enjoy!
