As a Level I Trauma Center, we are dedicated not only to treating people who have been injured, but also to helping them recover. We connect our patients and families with programs and resources they need to manage recovery from serious injuries and improve their lives. Through our partnership with the Trauma Survivors Network, we are able to offer more resources that our patients need to live their best possible lives.

Coping After a Serious Injury

After a traumatic injury, you will find that your life has changed, even after you get out of the hospital or are done with treatment. The issues you experience can last a long time. Friends and family may expect you to pick up where you left off before you were injured. You may struggle with:

  • Physical changes that affect how you function day-to-day
  • Chronic pain
  • Emotional distress such as anxiety, depression, frustration or even anger
  • Cognitive issues such as forgetfulness
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling “off”
  • Loss of enjoyment or inability to do activities you used to like
  • Relationship changes
  • Disruption of previous plans and routines, such returning to work or education plans
  • Financial distress
  • Worry about your future
