Hearing Loss Treatment Options

Around 15% of adults in the U.S. report hearing problems in one or both ears. Hearing loss — even if it's mild — can impact your quality of life. Here to tell us more is Jamie Jensen, CCC-A, AuD, an audiologist with the Froedtert & MCW health network.

Why is it important to treat hearing loss — even if it's mild?

Untreated hearing loss can lead to faster rates of cognitive and physical decline. By treating hearing loss, we can help prevent up to 7% of dementia cases. Additionally, hearing loss can impact patients' social isolation, depression, loneliness, their ability to do their job and then also safety concerns. By treating hearing loss, we address all of those.

What treatments are available for hearing loss — including advanced treatments?

There are a variety of treatments available. The most common and widely used are hearing aids. There's also assisted listening devices that can help in more difficult situations, and then there are more advanced treatment options such as a cochlear implant which is for patients who can't benefit from a hearing aid and is a surgical option that stimulates the inner ear directly.

Why should people with hearing loss seek treatment with the Froedtert & MCW health network?

We have an experienced team of audiologists, ENT physicians and neuro-otologists who will thoroughly evaluate your hearing loss. Based on the degree and type of hearing loss, we will make recommendations for the best hearing loss treatment option for you to help address your concerns and to help you meet your personal goals.
