Same-Day Care Options
When you or a loved one is injured or sick, deciding where to go for same-day medical care can be stressful and confusing. To help us understand the many different same-day care options is Anshu Aggarwal, MD, a primary care physician who practices at McKinley Health Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
When to Choose the Emergency Department
Often, a hospital emergency department is the first place to come to mind when same-day care is needed, but is that always the right choice? While the emergency department is the first place that comes to mind, it is not always the right option. So the rule of thumb is if you have an injury or disease that is either life-threatening or can lead to a permanent disability, you should call 911 and seek care in the emergency department.
Choosing Other Same-Day Care Options
If the health issue doesn't rise to the level of a hospital emergency department visit, but same-day care is needed, what are the other options available and how should you decide? Often we can actually refer you to other options such as an urgent care visit or a FastCare visit. We can also sometimes schedule same-day appointments with your primary care physician — in person or virtually.
Depending on what you need, we can also refer you to specialized same-day care either at Ortho Now or SpineCare which can be in person or virtual as well.
