When to Choose the Emergency Department
Often, a hospital emergency department is the first place that comes to mind when same-day care is needed. But is that always the right choice? Usually, the emergency room is a great place, especially if you are worried that the patient has risk for death or immediate disability like a stroke or a heart attack, but there are a lot of other options that can also be very helpful when it's not that level that's necessary.
When You Need Care Today, But Not an Emergency Room
If the health issue doesn't rise to the level of an emergency department visit, what are the other options available and how should you decide? Well, calling your primary care doctor's office is a great first step. Your primary care doctor knows you and your family, and they can help you figure out what you need best. That might actually include a visit on the same day with that doctor or somebody else in their office. You could have a virtual visit from the convenience of your own home. You could also go to one of our urgent care or FastCare® options.
