PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency Requirements and Expectations

The following are some of the requirements and expectations for participants in the PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency at Froedtert Hospital.

    • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
    • Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW)
  2. Conferences
    • ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference (GLPRC)
    • Milwaukee Residency Conferences (six/year)
    • PSW Annual Meeting (optional)
    • PSW Educational Conference (optional)
    • ASHP Leadership Conference (recommended)
  3. Formal Presentations
    • UHC Resident Poster Presentation
    • GLPRC PowerPoint Presentation
    • PSW Poster Presentation (recommended)
  4. PGY1 Staffing
    • Average of one out of five weeks spent staffing as a decentral clinical pharmacist (Monday-Friday, 10-hour PM shifts)
    • Average of one out of five weekends spent staffing as a central and/or decentral pharmacist (Friday-Sunday, 10-hour shifts)
    • Four additional Friday shifts as a combination central/decentral pharmacist (Friday, 8-hour shift)
  5. PGY2 Staffing
    • Approximately nine weeks throughout the year (Monday - Friday, 10-hour shifts in central or decentral areas)
    • Approximately six weekends throughout the year (Saturday - Sunday, 10-hour shifts in central or decentral areas)
  6. Departmental Meetings
    • Weekly manager meetings
    • Twice-weekly clinical conferences
    • Weekly resident journal clubs
    • Monthly department staff meetings
    • Weekly inpatient pharmacist conferences
    • Monthly medication safety discussions
  7. Licensure
    • Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin (required by Sept. 1, 2014)
  8. Other
    • Minimum eight hours/day (Monday-Friday).
    • Assist and support department in additional ways as needed.
    • Complete assignments and evaluations on a timely basis.
    • ACLS certification (classes provided during PGY1 year)
    • Participate in recruitment of incoming residency class
    • Precepting of IPPE students on rotation at Froedtert
