Birth Center

We treat your family like our family

The Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Birth Center is located within Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. The Birth Center has immediate access to a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit and to the full range of pediatric medical and surgical care.

Many local, regional and national physicians send the most difficult cases to our specialists because of their acknowledged expertise. And because our physicians and staff use a multidisciplinary (team) approach for specific concerns of pregnancy, our patients have the advantage of medical expertise from several different disciplines without consulting more than one doctor.

The Birth Center's advanced capabilities eliminate the need for transfers to other facilities — whatever the complication — and provide additional assurance to parents and families. Learn more about our programs and services.

At the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Birth Center, we provide you with the safest of care through your hospital stay. We know giving birth and becoming a parent are very exciting, important milestones in your life. We are committed to providing you with individualized care as you prepare for one of the greatest joys of life.

The Birth Center Experience

When you arrive at the Birth Center, you may be assessed in one of our triage rooms. In triage, our staff will assess you to determine the most appropriate plan of care.

All our labor and delivery rooms are private and provide state-of-the-art birthing equipment. Your partner can be at your side during the entire experience, and our staff will provide all the support and assistance you need.

It is important that you understand your pain management options and remain flexible on choices to manage pain during labor. We offer many options for your comfort throughout labor, from breathing and relaxation techniques, to whirlpool tubs and epidural anesthesia. All pain management options are available 24 hours a day.

Each labor and delivery room has a recliner, rocking chair, birthing ball, TV with VCR/DVD and CD player to provide you with every comfort throughout your labor experience.

If a cesarean birth is needed, we have two operating suites located in labor and delivery. Our physicians and anesthesiologists are available 24 hours a day to provide the safest care possible to you and your baby.

After You Deliver: the Mother-Baby Unit

Once your baby is born, you will be transferred to our Mother-Baby Unit. Here, you will be greeted by your nurse, who will provide individualized care. Your baby will stay with you in your room. This allows you to gain experience and feel comfortable caring for your baby. Our health care team is always available to help as you become familiar with your baby’s needs.

Our nursing staff is available to teach you about caring for yourself and your newborn, including how to breast-feed. We will provide you with information, education and comfort. We also have certified lactation consultants available to help you as you become accustomed to breast-feeding your baby – even after you've left the hospital.

Our level II special care nursery is located on the Mother-Baby Unit. This nursery provides an extra level of care to babies who need it, while allowing parents to be close to their child. Our nursery staff offers skilled care 24 hours a day.

If a newborn must stay in the special care nursery, we allow and encourage parents to participate in the care of their baby. We are always available to help you learn more about caring for your infant.

Thank you for considering the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Birth Center. If you would like more information, please call us at 414-805-3666 or 800-272-3666.
