Description

The Aphasia Community Group is a compassionate and understanding community dedicated to fostering connection and empowerment for individuals affected by aphasia. In our supportive environment, members find solace in sharing their experiences, triumphs, and setbacks with others who understand the complexities of living with aphasia.

Led by facilitators with expertise in speech therapy and emotional support, our group sessions provide a safe space to enhance communication skills, rebuild confidence, and explore various coping strategies. Participants engage in a range of activities, from communication and language activities to open discussions on daily life challenges.

The group fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding, promoting social interaction and combating isolation that individuals with aphasia may experience. Family members and caregivers are also welcome, as we believe in the strength of a united support system. Together, we embark on a journey of resilience, mutual encouragement, and growth, celebrating the unique strengths of each individual on their path to improved communication and enhanced quality of life.

Break-out sessions for caregivers are available. This group is appropriate for individuals with aphasia and their support person(s) who are motivated to work toward improving communication effectiveness and discussing psychosocial issues that arise after discharge. It is appropriate not only for individuals who recently acquired aphasia, but also for individuals who have already completed a rehabilitation program, or who acquired aphasia several years ago. The group also has a special focus on support persons and issues that may arise from changing relationships and roles.
