As a surgeon often referred the most complex and complicated cases in my specialty, I understand how stressful it can be for patients and families who have suffered greatly from a significant medical condition that requires surgery. I strive to provide patient centered, timely, compassionate, and exceptional care to all of my patients. I aim to include my patients in the decision making process, to understand their treatment goals, and to create a treatment plan that is tailored just for them.

Dr. Gould joined Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin as the Chief of General Surgery in 2011 after 9 years in practice at the University of Wisconsin.  He is currently Professor of Surgery and he holds the Walker Endowed Chair in General Surgery at the Medical College.  He has a national reputation as a minimally invasive foregut surgeon (specializes in the surgical treatment of diseases of the stomach and esophagus) and as a bariatric surgeon (weight loss surgery).  He is frequently invited to give talks on his areas of expertise, and has published extensively on these topics as well.   His research focus is on clinical outcomes in foregut surgery, innovation and the development of new surgical devices and technologies, and surgical skills training through simulation.

I was very nervous because of a very bad experience at Surgical associates in Wausau. The nurses and practitioners were true care-givers taking the time to understand my journey. Dr. Gould did not disappoint my expectations. He came highly recommended. Dr. Gould was kind and personable. He allowed me to express my worries and validated them. He thanked me for making the long trip and he assured me I would have the best care possible. He asked that I have all my pre and post procedures with him and his care team. I appreciated that piece of mind. I am coming 360 miles to find comfort and heal. I felt the effort I made was matched. Thank you all.

Doctor and his PA were fantastic. The problem was the LPN who took my vitals. She was uncaring . Stop using the blood pressure machines. Take my blood pressure manually machines always read higher. When I visit my primary care doctor they manually do blood pressure. I wasn't nervous. If she would of taken the time and looked at my chart she would of see I have a normal BP. Using a machine is being lazy. Be compassionate is her job. If she would of listened to my wife instead of blowing her off maybe she would of learned something. She put my wife in the exam room like she was be bad. My wife is a medical assistant. The LPN needs to listen. I will be back because of the doctor and PA.

When he mentioned that the barium swallow was not necessary, I asked WHY did you prescribe it? He railroaded over our conversation. I ask a lot of questions. His "bedside manners" could be improved.
