One advantage to choosing Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s HHT Program is our state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging capabilities.

Genetic testing is a primary tool for confirming HHT and helping to identify those who should receive further screening for arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), abnormalities of blood vessels. AVMs may be present in a patient’s body without symptoms. Learn more about HHT symptoms.

Other diagnostic tests commonly ordered for HHT patients include:

  • Bubble-enhanced echocardiogram, used to find AVMs in the lungs
  • Brain MRI scan, used to determine the presence of AVMs in the brain
  • CT scans, used to monitor for AVMs in other parts of the body
