Milwaukee, Wis. — On July 25, 2018, Froedtert Health acquired the former Wisconsin Heart Hospital property at 10000 W. Bluemound Road, Wauwatosa, from Ascension Wisconsin. The two organizations have been engaged in discussions over the past several months regarding the site. Patients have not been seen at that location since the Heart Hospital closed in July 2016.
“Proximity to the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin academic medical center campus and continuing capacity constraints at Froedtert Hospital made this a logical step for us,” said Cathy Jacobson, president and chief executive officer of Froedtert Health.
Jacobson noted that the Froedtert & MCW health network continues to experience unprecedented demand for services, particularly at Froedtert Hospital. The organization has deployed numerous tactics to alleviate capacity constraints at all of its hospitals, including additional access points for urgent and emergency care. However, she said specific plans for the Bluemound Road site are not yet determined.
Bernie Sherry, senior vice president, Ascension Healthcare and Ministry market executive, Ascension Wisconsin, said, “Ascension Wisconsin has a significant presence at our Mayfair Road location offering urgent care, ambulatory surgery, primary and specialty care services which is in close proximity to the Bluemound Road property. Going forward, Ascension Wisconsin will continue to focus on keeping care local and convenient by developing additional services at our Mayfair Road location.”
The organizations declined to disclose the terms of the transaction.
