I embrace a care philosophy that focuses on the overall health of the patient in addition to the injury at hand. Therefore, every patient receives a thorough evaluation and review of appropriate imaging/testing. I discuss treatment options with the patients and their families to determine the appropriate treatment pathway that will maximize function and limit risk. I focus on conservative treatment options including physical and occupational therapy to retrain the musculoskeletal system and improve the motion at the injury site, but also through the whole body. Keeping patients active and doing the activities they love improves every aspect of health.

About

Dr. Heather Curtiss is a native of Wisconsin. She received a BS in Kinesiology from University of Wisconsin- Madison, and an athletic training certification from University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Dr. Curtiss then completed her medical education in Madison University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health graduating in 2007. After finishing her Masters in Biomechanics from UW-Milwaukee, she completed a PM&R residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her training was completed with a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Utah. She did practice for several years at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin, but to transition back into academic medicine and has been practicing at University of Utah since 2016. She could not pass up the opportunity to combine an academic practice of sports and spine closer to her family. Dr. Curtiss is excited to start working at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is looking forward to continuing her career in academic medicine. She is excited about being a part of a large PM&R department with a variety of strengths and interests.

Teaching is one of her strong interests with specific passion for musculoskeletal ultrasound and procedure training. Learners are always welcome. Research will always be an interest, focusing on injury mechanisms and physician burnout.

She is married with 2 kids, aged 13 and 10. Paul, her husband, will be working in the title industry once the family joins her in Wisconsin after the school year. As a family, they enjoy hiking and the outdoors. They will be sad to leave the beautiful mountains and national parks of Utah, but look forward to enjoying the lush outdoors of Wisconsin. As always, much of her spare time is trying to keep up with the kids who are involved in tennis, dance, basketball, track and band. They certainly will be able to attend many more family events with the immediate family in Madison, and the extended family all throughout the Milwaukee area!

Dr. Curtiss and her staff are remarkable in their knowledge and ability to communicate effectively.
Explained everything thoroughly and asked all questions.
Dr Curtiss and staff are excellent at providing a calming and professional environment for their care.
MY CARE PROVIDE COULD NOT HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB. SHE WAS AND HAS BEEN GREAT. I CAN'T SAY MORE ABOUT HER CONCERN FOR MY PROBLEMS.
This was a follow up appointment. I had not seen Dr Curtiss for about 18 months. My situation had changed. She entered the room fully prepared with my history in her usual professional manner. She gave me options and allowed me to pick the direction I wanted to go. The appointment was very thorough and complete. A very pleasant experience. Follow up appointments were made before I left.
I felt like I was really listened to
All good
Staff & provider were kind and professional. Every step was explained before anything was done.
I have always received the best of care and concern when I visit the spine center. And Dr Curtiss was more than helpful in the future plans for my treatment regime..she is very respectful and responsible for her clientele..excellent service and very respectful towards her staff and patients.thank you again for the speedy response of getting me in to see the doctor..
Everyone was extremely professional.
Excellent care and staff! I'm always treated professionally, kindly and respectfully. Dr. Curtiss is an amazingly skilled physician who I feel completely at ease with. My procedure was somewhat scary as I'd never had it done before but I left feeling secure and glad that I'm in her care.
I greatly appreciate the level of care provided by Dr. Curtiss and her staff. Thank you.
Dr. Curtiss models the behaviors all providers should have. She is an excellent communicator and she listens well. She shows tremendous respect and she is clearly extremely knowledgeable. She is my very favorite physician.
All was good. No further comments.
This was my third MRI and the first team and second team were amazing ; they communicated with me during the procedure and made me feel safe and comfortable .
The whole team was great and took very good care of me.
Dr. Curtiss is a phenomenal doctor. She cares, listens, explains extremely well and does not ever make me feel rushed. Great bedside manner. Would recommend to any of my friends or family.
Took a long time to get appointment. Probably because she is so good
The doctor was very caring. Too bad it took two months to get the appointment. I probably would have my surgery by now and be free from pain.
Another good appointment/injections With Dr. Curtiss. A very personable, caring, kind doctor.

DOCTOR CURTISS WAS VERY HELPFUL AND PROVIDED THE CARE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE CARE SHE PROVIDED.
For an experience that was a bit concerning, the Dr. And her assistant were wonderful.
Great experience
All very good. It seemed to be a long time between initial diagnoses, and the amount of time to get an appointment. There was a lot of pain involved and I couldn't do certain things until I had this procedure.
My visit was so positive. The dr. Explained everything to me and made me understand and I felt relaxed after she Explained what she was going to do. I felt safe and the nurse talked to me and reassured that I was going to be ok. My visit was excellent. I would definitely want to go back again if I have go back.
Not really-all my question were answered
