BroadBand Light (BBL™) technology uses the power of intense pulsed light to deliver exceptional results in photorejuvenation therapy. Your provider can treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by aging and sun exposure.
What to Expect in a BroadBand Light (BBL) Treatment
We take baseline photos of your skin. Then, we cleanse your skin, apply eye protection and apply a clear gel to the treatment area.
Once your skin is ready, we perform a series of passes over the skin with the BBL device as the device applies light flashes to the skin. The light penetrates your skin to damage the pigment, tissue or blood vessels. Your body will work to repair the damage — reducing the appearance of the discoloration or wrinkles.
BBL treatment is not a laser treatment. It uses intense pulsed light instead of the more focused light of a laser. Laser treatments are a single wavelength, while BBL uses a broad spectrum of light that we can filter several different ways to treat different conditions. It also treats a larger area of skin than a laser.
After the treatment, we cool the skin down and apply sunscreen.
How long does a BBL treatment take?
A BBL treatment takes about 15 minutes.
What does BBL treat?
BBL treats age spots (liver spots), sun damage, redness, broken facial vessels, wrinkles and dull skin. these conditions, as well as the effects of rosacea. It can also reduce the appearance of freckles and birthmarks. The treatment can be performed on all body areas, such as the face, neck, chest, arms and hands.
Who Can Have BBL Treatment
BBL works best on lighter skin tones. Darker skin tones should avoid BBL, as the darker pigment absorbs too much light that can actually cause dark spots (hyperpigmentation) to appear. Most patients in Wisconsin do not have treatment during summer months because of tan skin. They typically have three treatments a year in October, January and right before summer.
At your initial consultation, our experts will review your treatment goals and examine your skin. We help you put together the treatment plan that is best for your skin tone and lifestyle.
Recovery After BBL Treatment
BBL treatment requires little to no downtime. Patients can return to their normal lifestyle and wear makeup the same day.
If you have brown spots — the spots will get darker, come to the surface and come off in 5 to 7 days. The most important thing is that you do not prematurely pick or scrub off the spots before they are ready.
BBL Results
After BBL, you can expect younger looking skin and an improvement in skin elasticity, as well as a more even skin tone and texture. You will see immediate results for multiple conditions, including sun damage, age spots, fine lines, redness, rosacea and acne.
If you have one or two BBL treatments, your results will last for a few months. Three treatments or more each year have shown to result in smoother, brighter and more even skin - giving the impression of reversing the aging process.
Long-term benefits will last as long as you do multiple treatments a year. Patients who have a lot of sun damage are usually the most happy with the treatment because they see the most improvement.
We can’t control your sun exposure and what the sun continually does to your skin over time, so we highly encourage good sunscreen habits and to avoid exposing your face to the sun as much as possible.
BBL Treatment Risks
BBL is a noninvasive and gentle procedure. In the wrong hands, however, it can cause hyperpigmenting of the skin or a burn. You can trust that our certified experts have extensive experience performing BBL treatments, with the added benefit of working in a medical environment.
