We understand that pain control is often a woman’s biggest worry about childbirth. We provide information and options regarding pain relief during pregnancy, labor and birth. We’ll work with you to develop a pain relief strategy that fits your needs and aligns with your values.
Pain Relief During Labor and Birth
There’s no “right” way to manage pain during labor and birth. Our goal is to help you manage your pain according to your values and needs.
The staff at all three of our birth center locations are adept at helping women find suitable pain relief. Available pain relief options include:
- Relaxation techniques (such as breathing exercises, use of music, visualization techniques, etc)
- Whirlpool tubs and showers
- Patient-controlled anesthesia
- IV medication
It’s a good idea to learn about and discuss pain control options with your obstetrician or nurse midwife well before labor. However, it’s also a good idea to keep an open mind. There’s no way to tell how you’ll cope with labor, or which pain control method will work best for you, until you’re actually in labor.
Anesthesiologists and certified anesthesiologist assistants are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at each of our Birth Centers.
