  • Due to the number of Job Shadow Observation Experience requests for Froedtert ThedaCare Health-South Region, please submit your application a minimum of four weeks prior to the date you wish to observe.
  • Application does not guarantee placement in a Job Shadow Observation Experience.

A Job Shadow Observation Experience is a short-term learning experience in which an individual shadows a team member for the purpose of gaining insight about a professional role or work responsibilities, the functioning of a particular department/service and/or the integration of an occupation/department/service within the health care system.

Preapproval 

The following roles must be approved through MCW (Medical College of Wisconsin) BEFORE a Job Shadow Observation Experience application can be submitted.

  • Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) for Masters Science Anesthesiology (MSA): For approval, contact the MSA Program Coordinator directly at [email protected]
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA): For approval, contact the CRNA Program Coordinator directly at [email protected]

In the pre-arranged section of the application, you MUST include the approved provider name with the approving Program Coordinator in parentheses.

Other Placements Needing Preapproval

For other placements that are pre-approved, you MUST include the provider or team member name who agreed to a pre-arranged Job Shadow Observation Experience in the application. If pre-arranged and not included in the application, your application will not be considered.

Eligibility for Job Shadow Observation Experiences

  • At least 16 years old EXCEPT in Surgical Services 
    • Job Shadow Observers in Surgical Services (including OR) must be at least 18 years old
    • A parent/guardian signature is required for Job Shadow Observers under 18 years old
  • Job Shadow Observers who wish to observe a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or anesthesiologist must identify the name of the provider who has agreed to the Job Shadow Observation Experience. The provider’s information must be included in the pre-arranged section of the application.
  • Job Shadow Observers cannot shadow/observe family members, their primary or specialty care provider or the primary or specialty care provider of immediate family members.
  • Job Shadow Observers cannot have any physical contact with patients, take a patient history, do an exam, handle equipment or document in the medical record.
  • Dress code for Job Shadow Observation Experiences is business casual. Job Shadow Observers may be asked to change into department appropriate attire (depending on department guidelines).
  • Job Shadow Observers must obtain and wear a visitor badge at all times.
