A Job Shadow Observation Experience is a short-term learning experience in which an individual shadows a team member for the purpose of gaining insight about a professional role or work responsibilities, the functioning of a particular department/service and/or the integration of an occupation/department/service within the health care system.

Observers seeking to shadow a CAA (Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant) for MSA (Masters Science Anesthesiology) applications should not submit an FH Observers application. Instead, please contact the MSA program directly for shadowing coordination at [email protected].

Eligibility for Job Shadow Observation Experiences

  • At least 16 years old EXCEPT in Surgical Services
    • A parent/guardian signature is required for observers under 18 years old
    • Persons requesting to shadow in Surgical Services (including OR) must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be fully vaccinated. (Please see health requirements for details.)
    • Medical/religious exemptions not accepted.
    • COVID Vaccination recommended, but not required.
  • Observers cannot shadow/observe family members, their primary care provider or the primary care provider of immediate family members.
  • Observers cannot have any physical contact with a patient, take a patient history, do an exam, handle equipment or document in the medical record.
  • Dress code for Job Shadow Observation Experiences is business casual or scrubs.
  • Students must wear their school ID.
