  • Froedtert Hospital Awards

    Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Froedtert Hospital is an internationally recognized academic medical center located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Froedtert Hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence and research draws patients from around the world. It is eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center, working in tandem with the Medical College of Wisconsin.

    Froedtert Hospital was recently recognized as a top performer in the 2022 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking by Vizient, Inc. Achieving a rank of 10 out of 107 Comprehensive Academic Medical Center Vizient members, we were recognized for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. This represents our highest rank since 2017. The ranking measured performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. The ranking factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.     Froedtert Hospital is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in three adult specialties — ear, nose and throat; rehabilitation and urology. Froedtert Hospital is also recognized as high performing in four adult specialties and 15 procedures and conditions.

    The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized Froedtert Hospital as a "Top Performer in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality" for protecting our LGBTQ patients and employees from discrimination, ensuring equal visitation for LGBTQ people and providing staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care.

    Froedtert Hospital received the 2022 Greenhealth Partner for Change Award and the Greening the Operating Room Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth for leadership in environmental sustainability in health care. A focus on more sustainable operations supports healthier patients, staff and communities.

    Froedtert Hospital was named a top major teaching hospital in IBM Watson Health’s annual 100 Top Hospitals ranking that recognizes the top-performing hospitals in the U.S. To determine the hospitals included on the list, IBM Watson Health researchers evaluated 3,134 short-term, acute care hospitals using publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data and metrics.

    Becker's Healthcare recognized Froedtert Hospital in the 2020 edition of its list of "100 great hospitals in America." The hospitals included on this list are recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes and staff and physician satisfaction. These institutions are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties.

    Froedtert Hospital is among "America's 100 Best Hospitals™," according to a list released by Healthgrades. This recognition places our hospital among the top 2% of hospitals nationally for exhibiting clinical excellence year over year, according to Healthgrades. Healthgrades produced its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” list based on analysis of MedPAR data for years 2018–2020  and represents three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.

    Froedtert Hospital received an "C" grade from The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2022 report. Leapfrog’s biannual safety ranking evaluates more than 2,500 hospitals nationwide, assigning A, B, C, D and F letter grades based on a hospital’s performance in areas such as infection rates, mortality and errors.

    The Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® annual study named Froedtert Hospital as one of the highest-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the nation. Using independent public data and proprietary analytics, the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study recognizes cardiovascular hospitals that have clearly demonstrated top performance in care, efficiency and community value.

    The Froedtert & MCW Cancer Network, including the Clinical Cancer Center on the Froedtert Hospital campus, is a 2021 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® winner for patient experience, reaching the 95th percentile among Press Ganey clients nationally. This marks the fourth consecutive year the Cancer Network has been recognized with this honor. Our cancer patients continue to rate us highly: More than 93% say they would recommend us.

    The American College of Radiology (ACR) recognized Froedtert Hospital as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence™ (DICOE). As a DICOE facility, patients receive the highest levels of imaging quality, safety and care. The DICOE program is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize the best in quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes.

    The American Heart Association recognized Froedtert Hospital with its Get With the Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Plus Award. In addition, the hospital was recognized on the AHA’s Target: Heart Failure(SM) Honor Roll and received the AHA’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™ award. 

    The American Heart Association also recognized Froedtert Hospital with its Get With the Guidelines® — Coronary Artery Disease Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Silver Plus and Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Silver awards. These awards demonstrate our commitment to improving care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining processes to ensure timely and proper care for heart attacks.

    For 2021, the Froedtert & MCW Comprehensive Stroke Program at Froedtert Hospital earned the Get With The Guidelines® — Stroke GOLD PLUS with Honor Roll Elite Plus and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award, (the highest level of recognition possible for a single, continuous 24-month period) from the American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines Program.     The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Froedtert Hospital have each received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. This award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Receiving this national three-year award with gold, silver and bronze designations, marks a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and achieving a healthy work environment.

    Froedtert Hospital received the distinction of becoming ENERGY STAR® Certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for superior energy performance. Froedtert Hospital reduced its energy consumption per square foot by more than 30 percent since 2009. Our staff worked together to reduce our consumption to make it equal to that of more than 1,500 homes. ENERGY STAR is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance.

    As a part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, Froedtert Hospital received its fourth Magnet recognition. The program recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing and is considered the gold standard for nursing excellence. With this achievement, Froedtert Hospital retains its place among the best of the best as part of the Magnet community — just a small, and select, group of U.S. health care organizations achieve Magnet recognition.

    Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital is a full-service hospital serving residents of Waukesha, Washington, Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties by combining next-generation technology with personalized care.

    The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital as a "Top Performer in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality" for protecting our LGBTQ patients and employees from discrimination, ensuring equal visitation for LGBTQ people and providing staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care.

Healthgrades bases its analysis on MedPAR data for years 2018–2020  and represents three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.

  • Health Centers Awards

    Our health centers and clinics are staffed by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Physicians. They include more than 250 primary care and specialty care physicians serving patients at more than 30 locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

    The Froedtert & MCW Cancer Network, including locations at Moorland Reserve Health Center and Drexel Town Square Health Center, is a 2021 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® winner for patient experience, reaching the 95th percentile among Press Ganey clients nationally.     Our North Hills Health Center and Town Hall Health Center in Menomonee Falls and our West Bend Health Center have been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for meeting the National Standard for Diabetes Self-Management Education.

These awards recognize our hospitals and health network members from a general perspective for characteristics such as clinical excellence, superior performance and patient preference. Our recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals list is an example of what we consider an "organization award."

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Froedtert West Bend Hospital as "Top Performers in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality" for protecting our LGBTQ patients and employees from discrimination, ensuring equal visitation for LGBTQ people and providing staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care.

Froedtert Health was named a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion, earning a top 100 score on the 2022 Disability Equality Index® (DEI). Froedtert Health also received the top score for disability inclusion practices in 2020 and 2021. The DEI measures culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices (benefits, recruitment, employment, education, retention and advancement, accommodations), community engagement and supplier diversity.

Froedtert Health ranks third on the Association of ERGs and Councils’ 2021 Diversity Impact Awards™ list of “Top 10 Diversity Action Award” winners. We were honored for our Diversity Council’s rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic’s economic impact and community unrest. Froedtert Health also placed third on the list in 2020.

The Froedtert Health Anticoagulation Clinic passed the Anticoagulation Forum assessment program and earned the designation as an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence. The rigorous assessment gave us the chance to measure our practice against five key areas of patient care. We have anticoagulation clinic locations at Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Froedtert West Bend Hospital.
